Here is an example of a school programme for sustainable agriculture and environment that also delivers food security and nutrition benefits:

34 schools around South Africa follow a three-year Organic Classroom Program. The design of the garden feeds into math lessons on measuring and mapping; building indigenous windbreaks becomes a lesson on meteorology and plant species. At harvest time come classes on health and nutrition. The third year of the program, called Green Abundance, explores income-generation projects with the children in lessons around economics and business management. And the best sign of success: when the children move to high schools, they want gardens there too.
